Cuba caravan celebration and presentation.
Traditions Cafe, Tuesday, July 3rd, 7 p.m.
This is your annual opportunity to learn about Cuba and give aid to an organization dedicated to defying the illegal blockade imposed by the United States. Attendees of the Pastors for Peace caravan headed to Havana will be there to answer any questions you have and explain why they defy the travel ban and deferred licensing process. The event is free and there will be a movie presentation and possible live band. Any amount of donation is accepted and tax-deductible too!
Also, get creative and bring disposable medical supplies for Cuba's global humanitarian medical program cut off from basic access by cruel US restrictions or new baseballs for the country's honored pasttime. For more suggestions about material aid and information/history of the caravan, visit http://www.pastorsforpeace.org

Mad Pride Day Celebration
July 13th, 7 p.m., Traditions Café, 300 5th Avenue SW, Olympia
A new event and a new organization are coming to Olympia this summer. Friday the 13th of July will see Oly's first Mad Pride Day celebration. Mad Pride is a celebration of the dignity and humanity of victims and survivors of the psychiatric industry. This industry has proven itself to be at best ineffective at helping people to deal with mental health issues, and at worst imperialist, colonialist and genocidal. Consider the fact that more people have died in psychiatric institutions in the US than all the US soldiers killed in all the wars the US has fought.
Oly's Mad Pride celebration will include a showing of the documentary, "Psychiatry: An Industry of Death", produced by the Citizen's Commission on Human Rights; a panel discussion on psychiatry, pharmaceuticals, eugenics and the 5th World; and we will have a "confessional", where people can tell stories of their experiences with the psychiatric industry. These stories will be recorded and, with permission, will be shared through the internet as part of a 5th World oral history project.
For more information, contact the Cascadia Center for 5th World Studies by email at: world5.rising@yahoo.com, or by phone at: 360.359.6920
