Help Resist Nuclear Annihilation.... Shop at the Olympia Food Co-op!

Few South Sounders are aware that the Trident submarine base at Bangor, WA (a mere 20 miles west of Seattle) now houses the largest single stockpile of nuclear warheads in our nation's arsenal. The Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action has been struggling against this self-destructive madness since 1977. Headquartered on a piece of property which directly abuts the Bangor base, GZ recently launched an ambitious fundraising campaign to replace their old house, (which burned in 2005). Thanks to an unprecedented agreement with the Tovarish D. Wagster Fund, the Olympia Food Co-op will be participating in this effort to re-build the new Ground Zero Center. Starting this August, the Co-op will be offering "free" working-member green cards to the first 50 people who donate $25.00 or more to the Ground Zero Building Fund. These special cards are good for 25% off on all purchases (up to $100.00), at either of the Olympia Food Co-op's locations. For more information, please contact:

http://www.gzcenter.org . Donations may be mailed directly to: Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action, 16159 Clear Creek Rd. NW, Poulsbo, WA 98370

Inspired by the bestseller that exposed America's fast food industry. An eye-opening journey into the dark heart of the All-American meal. FAST FOOD NATION traces the birth of an everyday, ordinary burger through a chain of riveting, interlocked human stories - from a hopeful, young immigrant couple who cross the border to work in a perilous meat-packing plant; to a teen clerk who dreams of life beyond the counter; to the corporate marketing whiz who is shocked to discover that his latest burger invention - "The Big One" - is literally full of manure. This is a must see.

The Alliance for Democracy and the Unitarian Universalist Social Justice Committee present the movie: Voices in Wartime.

Friday, September 7th at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation -- 2200 East End Street NW -- in West Olympia. Catch this movie series every First (and sometimes second) Friday(s) of the month.

Voices in Wartime, a documentary that uses poetry to move us to the emotion of war explained by soldiers, civilians, journalists and medical personnel who have experienced the effects of combat firsthand. And through the hearts and emotions of those who have stayed at home, observed vicariously and mourned the fallen. The film gives a fresh perspective -- stepping away to look at all wars -- not just current conflicts. The terrible beauty of the poetry is our guide, distilling the grim realities and diverse emotions of war. History and literature have shown us that in times of war, poets can lead us to greater truths and that the power of poetry can help us understand the trauma, violence and death caused by armed conflict.
