The Global Banquet: The Politics of Food

January 9th, Wednesday 7-9 pm, Traditions Café, 300 5th Avenue, Olympia

Please join us in viewing and discussing “The Global Banquet: The Politics of Food” (video) at Traditions Cafe.

This video helps viewers to understand the deeply destructive aspects of the corporate globalization of food. It shows how free trade policies, advanced mainly by the World Trade Organization (WTO), allow a handful of very powerful corporations to control the world’s food system. These corporations, which enjoy enormous profits, are largely responsible for the destruction of the family farm economy in the Unites States and the eradication of the livelihood of peasant farmers throughout the developing world.

The situation is indeed critical, but disaster is not inevitable. Unjust trade policies that now favor the few can be rewritten to favor many.

Part One: Who’s Invited (25 minutes)

Part Two: What’s on the Menu? (25 minutes)

This event is co-sponsored by the Interfaith Works Earth Stewardship Committee and Earth Care Catholics of Olympia.
