Freedom Bridge Liberated!Reflections on Fort Militarization Resistance in Tacoma

As the U.S. occupation of Iraq continues into its sixth year, the USS Brittin, carrying war machinery with the 4th Stryker Combat Brigade, landed at the Port of Tacoma on July 29th. Emergency meetings were called in Seattle, Tacoma and Olympia. Activists from the region soon converged in Tacoma to strategically resist the movement of the equipment as it rolled from the Port to Fort Lewis. This war machinery is destined for repair, where needed, and will then be used in training exercises before it deploys back to Iraq.

Four More Peace Activists Targeted for Prosecution

Four more people who participated in the November, 2007 round of actions with Port Militarization Resistance (PMR) in Olympia are being targeted for prosecution by the City of Olympia Prosecutors Office. Gabrielle Sloane, Amory Ballantine, Davi Rios and Joji Kohjima were scheduled for arraignments June 25th at Olympia Municipal Court.

Notes on the 2005 Global Women's Strike: End Poverty and War -- Invest in Caring Not Killing!

On March 8 we participated in the 6 Annual Global Women's Strike here in Olympia. Friends gathered at Sylvester Park and shared music, food, and thoughts concerning the state of women's continuing fight to live while challenging oppression nationally and globally.

Sixteen women shared music and stories of their work in the community challenging poverty and war, and the devaluing, objectification, and appropriation of women's lives and labor. The affects of these assaults take so many forms, as does the work we do. What is common in our work is our endurance in continuously . . .
