Free Radio Olympia (FRO) ceased transmitting its signal over the airwaves on May 22nd to avoid a probable raid by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The interruption of our service to the community will last until a new volunteer steps forward to host our transmitter, accepting the risk of a raid or FCC visit.
Recent FCC harassment has escalated significantly, both statewide and nationwide. The FCC has also
recently harassed two other unlicensed stations in Washington State, according to DIY Media's FCC

Free Radio Olympia is changing our frequency again. We are moving to 98.5 MHz on March 1, 2005. This is not the first time we have had to move, and it will probably not be the last. Current FCC licensing activity is poised to pack the cracks and crevices of Olympia's dial with translator signals, rebroadcasting other radio stations, often from out of town.

In the midst of the chaos and confusion surrounding America's "Bush Wars", Olympia has gained an important new presence on the radio dial. Friends of independent media have now declared 91.3 FM to be a Liberated Frequency, and they are engaged in an ongoing project to "free the airwaves", through sustained civil disobedience. Their aim: To bring the people of Olympia access to more alternative information and culture than has heretofore been available, and ultimately to provide a permanent voice for those disenfranchised by the "New World Order".
