The Olympia City Council's General Government Committee voted 2 -- 1 not to endorse the resolution calling on Congress to begin an impeachment investigation of Bush and Cheney. Jeff Kingsbury and Joe Hyer voted against the resolution; T.J. Johnson voted in support.

"I have researched and thought on this issue for several months, in addition to speaking with community members and local elected officials," he wrote. "In addition, I met specifically with Congressman Baird in Washington . . .

When our group began meeting in July 2006, we had no idea we were embarking on Mr. Toad's wild ride. We began simply enough with a strategy to inform others about impeachment. We began by showing the Center for Constitutional Rights' documentary, How to Impeach a President, at the local libraries and at Traditions Fair Trade.

Many people know that Bush and Cheney engaged in a systematic media campaign to deceive the American people and Congress about the reasons to launch a preemptive war on Iraq. Many others recognize that the President has violated numerous laws by spying on citizens without a warrant, dismissing their rights accorded to them by the Bill of Rights, and promoting torture. A lot of criticism has been committed to print since it was revealed that President Bush authorized warrantless wiretaps on United States citizens. Many Senators and legal experts have taken issue with the President's explanation that the targets of these warrantless wiretaps are terror suspects speaking with persons outside the United States. These Senators and experts point out that the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court was established for just such a purpose, and has only denied a handful of requests in the two and a half decades of its existence. But their shock and . . .

Sectors of the peace movement in the U.S. -- at least those which still show signs of having a pulse -- have seized upon the Downing Street Memo which might finally draw out in some substantive fashion the deceitful manner in which the U.S. moved toward the invasion of Iraq. The group AfterDowningStreet.org has called for an inquiry into possible impeachable offenses committed by Bush.

I admit, I first got the idea while watching Fahrenheit 911. I watched the video from GW's first inauguration and I thought "Why wasn't I there? That was where I needed to be!" I decided to book a flight to Washington D.C. for the week of January 20, 2005.
I had heard of local groups going there, but I decided to go alone. While many people told me not going with a group would be a mistake, in retrospect, it was the best decision I could have made.

Early summer has brought a flurry of public discussion about a topic previously confined to political margins the possibility of impeaching President George W. Bush. The idea is still far from the national media echo chamber, but some rumblings are now audible as people begin to think about the almost unthinkable.
