Opposing the attack of Iran: A Green Party Delegation Report to Sen. Patty Murray's Office

On Sept. 12, I was fortunate to be a part of a Green Party delegation to Senator Patty Murray’s office. We met with Ardis Dumont, Senator Murray’s Director of Special Projects, to talk about the impending US military action against Iran.

We were from Iran, Pakistan, India, as well as the Puget Sound area, and counted Muslims, Jews, and Christians among us. Individuals represented various groups: American Muslims of Puget Sound (AMPS), Ground Zero, Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), One Earth, StandUp! Despite the lofty rhetoric, the United States did not fight the Cold War against the tyranny of Communism. The former Soviet Union was a side issue for the United States. The primary targets and victims of the Cold War, both domestically and abroad, were democratic forces that could demonstrate that more inclusive social systems -- particularly economic and political - are possible. On Saturday March 18th Maria Cantwell and Barack Obama made a campaign appearance at Garfield High School in Seattle. Stand Up! Seattle made an appearance also displaying a banner that read, "MARIA CANT. SAY NO TO WAR" and "DON'T BARACK O BOMB IRAN." Our primary purpose was to expose Senator Cantwell for the unrepentent war criminal that she is.

Keeping Americans ignorant about Iran will make it easier to launch the missiles

Keep them behind the war curve.

While some Americans are exposing the deception for the latest war, steadily lay the groundwork for the next one.

Focus plenty of news reports on alienated youth in Iran, spotlighting despair that borders on nihilism. Meanwhile, give scant media attention to the growth of civil society, with many thousands of Iranian young people and their elders striving to create a diffuse yet coherent social movement for democracy and human rights.

Is iran the next target in the administration's sights?

At the Support the Truth event on February 18, former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter told an Olympia audience that the Bush administration had reviewed plans in October 2004 to attack Iran in June of 2005. "The Pentagon was told to be prepared to launch a massive aerial attack against Iran, Iraq's neighbor to the east, in order to destroy the Iranian nuclear program."
