On November 19 a popular assembly organized at the corner of Water Street and Fourth Avenue in downtown Olympia. The group held signs reading No Police Brutality and marched towards the Olympia Police Department headquarters. Gathering in support of the family of José Ramírez-Jiménez, who was shot and killed by the OPD on the night of November 15, the group paraded in a heavy rain.

Minnesota: the oddly-shaped midwest state with ten thousand lakes, Lutherans galore, and hot dishes. Added to that list this September: an invasion of thousands of Republicans, busloads upon busloads swarming towards the Xcel Energy Center. Much to my dismay, my home state had been transformed into a terrifying police statem downtown St Paul playing the part of the locked down and gridded out battleground.

In April, Olympia Port Militarization Resistance (OlyPMR) and several other peace and justice groups were invited to take part in a City sponsored dialogue about peace demonstrations at the Port of Olympia in November, 2007. At the same time, the City brought charges against three OlyPMR members who participated in these demonstrations. In the planning of the dialogue, it was decided by OlyPMR and by the representatives of the Port, the City and the Olympia Police Department, that the event should not go forward.
