Letter from the Editor
Maria Bressler
Since its inception, Works in Progress (WIP) has always been a local, community produced newspaper. WIP is an outlet for organizers, activists, thinkers, and community builders to push back against mainstream corporate news sources by telling authentic stories directly from the front lines of our social movements. Local independent media has always held a crucial role in social movements where corporate media has failed. With repression on the rise, Works in Progress and papers like it are needed now more than ever. We strive for this new iteration of WIP to deliver on the promise of bringing awareness to underreported issues in the South Sound region.
On November 30, 2025 the former editors of Works in Progress, Esther Kronenberg and Charlotte Persons, published an article entitled “A Call to Save Works in Progress.” Excerpts from the article read:
Two years ago, Works in Progress almost came to an end after its former volunteer staff, who for years put in long hours and a lot of effort, decided to bow out. Not wanting to lose such a valuable community asset, a small group of us stepped in, led by our now deceased dear friend and ally, Glen Anderson, to take over management and publication...
Now, we need the community to step up and take action to keep WIP going. We need writers, editors, tech savvy social media people, and people willing to take over WIP’s management.
Just as the previous group of hard working Works in Progress volunteers had done, a few of us stepped in to relaunch the paper after a five month hiatus. Our newly assembled team of talented writers and editors will continue the tradition of reporting on key issues affecting the South Sound community. We are very proud to take on the work and legacy of this respected and beloved local resource that has existed with little interruption since 1990.
Our first release will be published online on Friday April 3, 2026. We are so proud of all of the hard work that was put into this new issue, and we are excited to continue reinvigorating Works in Progress as a local outlet for sharing important stories, ideas, and debates. We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we did creating it.
Thank you,
Maria Bressler
