Olympia Slam Poetry Contest winners

Thursday, April 13 Olympia’s eight top-ranking performance poets went head to head in Olympia’s biggest poetry event for one of four spots on the 2017 Olympia Poetry Slam Team.

The winning team of Dan Evans, Rachel Greene, Brian McCracken and Taylor Bereiter will travel to the 2017 National Poetry Slam in Denver, CO. Olympia People’s Mic sponsors a weekly spoken word poetry community, and the Olympia Poetry Grand Slam highlights accomplished poets who have competed in slams throughout its 2016-17 season.

For three years, Olympia People’s Mic has nurtured the creative writing and performance skills of Olympia poets and sent representatives to national poetry events. Charles Mitchell and the Puget Sound Underground Railroad. Olympia Center—April 20. 1 pm. When 13 years old, Mitchell escaped enslavement in Olympia in 1860 by traveling by steamer from Olympia to Victoria, B. C. via the Puget Sound Underground Railroad. Interfaith Earth Day Service. Decatur Woods Park, Olympia—April 21. 1 to 2:15. Celebrate our precious and endangered species through songs, poems, and sharing. All faiths and the non-faithful are invited. Sixth-graders will talk about endangered species whose masks they have created. Mild rain is okay. If it pours, the backup is Temple Beth Hatfiloh’s Social Hall.
